Born in Jinghua Village near modern-day Qiongshan City, Hairui was a virtuous government official of the middle Ming Dynasty renown for his lifelong honesty and willingness to speak out on behalf of local people who sought his counsel and assistance.
Hairui Tomb is located in Binya Village in western Haikou City and is marked with the epitaph "Honest of Yuedong" (Yuedong means eastern Guangdong) on the right-hand gate. The tomb features a memorial archway. A 100-m granite roadway leading through the gates is adorned on either side with stone sculptures of men, horses and other animals. The tomb is also noted for its tree-lined garden. |
