Dongfang City is located at the lower reaches of the Changhua River about 260 km west of Haikou City. Noted for its production and export of mangoes, cashews, silk fabrics and rattan and bamboo woven wares, Dongfang is a major regional business centre.

Due to its strategic location on Hainan Island's west coast near the Western Expressway, the port city is also a transportation hub for the West Coast Area. Dongfang has a population of about 350,000 and provides visitors with a good selection of hotel, restaurant and shopping facilities.
